Dr. Adam Carcamo is the dedicated optometrist and owner of Dr. Adam O.D. & Associates, where he has been proudly serving the community since taking ownership in 2021. With a career in optometry that began in 2012, Dr. Carcamo brings over a decade of clinical experience and a deep passion for improving vision and eye health.
Born and raised in the Bay Area, Dr. Carcamo has called San Mateo home for more than 15 years. He began his academic journey at City College of San Francisco before earning his undergraduate degree from San Francisco State University. He went on to receive his Doctorate in Optometry from the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico, an experience that enriched both his clinical knowledge and cultural awareness. Fluent in English and Spanish, and conversational in Portuguese and American Sign Language, Dr. Carcamo values building strong, clear communication with patients from diverse backgrounds.
His path to optometry was shaped by a unique combination of scientific curiosity and a love for working with people. While pursuing microbiology as an undergraduate and working part-time in retail, he realized how much he enjoyed engaging with the public. Encouraged by his father, who is also an optometrist, Dr. Carcamo explored the field firsthand and discovered a profession that combined his interests in science and human connection.
Dr. Carcamo’s professional passions include contact lenses and primary eye care. He takes particular satisfaction in helping patients who have previously struggled to find suitable contact lenses and in treating a wide range of visual and ocular discomforts. For him, there’s no greater reward than seeing a patient leave his office with clearer vision and improved comfort.
Outside of work, Dr. Carcamo is known for his warm personality and dedication to community wellness. His journey has been marked by a commitment to lifelong learning, compassionate care, and building trust with every patient he meets.
Dr. Martha Klufas is a skilled and compassionate Optometrist at Dr. Adam OD and Associates, bringing decades of experience and a deep passion for eye care to the practice. Originally from New Jersey, she was inspired by her Ukrainian-born parents—especially her mother, who worked as an optician. Her early experiences assisting in her mother’s eyeglass store in the 1980s, tinting lenses and helping customers select frames, ignited her lifelong dedication to vision care.
Dr. Klufas moved to San Francisco to pursue her education in optometry at UC Berkeley, one of the nation’s top optometry schools. Since 2004, she has been a trusted in-network Vision Service Plan (VSP) provider, known for her ability to accurately diagnose and treat a wide range of eye conditions. She spent over ten years examining eyes at the Glaucoma Center of San Francisco, refining her expertise in managing complex ocular diseases.
One of the most meaningful moments in her career was participating in a mission trip to Guatemala, where she assisted in clinical trials dedicated to the pursuit of a cure for glaucoma—an experience that reinforced her calling in the field.
Dr. Klufas takes great pride in helping people improve and preserve their gift of sight. Her warm, patient-centered approach and sharp clinical skills make her a valued member of the team and a trusted provider for the community.
